We are rapidly approaching the beginning of scorching temperatures here in Southern California and it’s not uncommon for spikes in electricity to hit while everyone is running their air conditioning full blast. That’s why protecting your computer and printer with a surge suppressor is more than a good idea—it’s an absolute must. Read the rest of this entry »

A recent study showed how computer problems can unleash powerful — even dangerous emotions. When confronted with a dead computer, 19% admitted to wanting to hurl it out the nearest window, 9% felt stranded and alone, 11% used language normally reserved for special occasions, 7% did so loudly, 3% did so tearfully and another 3% vented their wrath on inanimate objects. Wow. Read the rest of this entry »

Do you remember the 1981 song from the rock group The Clash, which could be about Microsoft and Windows XP?
Always tease tease tease
You’re happy when I’m on my knees
One day is fine, next is black
So if you want me off your back
Well come on and let me know
Should I stay or should I go?

Media Monkey Vs. iTunes
When I got my first personal computer I knew there was a lot to learn. I wanted to try out as much software as possible. Specifically I would download different types of music players from software as old as Real Player to much more simple software like Winamp . Well after time I had to just decide on what I wanted to use, I knew this would be a hard decision. After twisting and turning in bed, the next day I decided to run with the one and only iTunes. I loved iTunes, from the way the visualizer’s sexy lines spiraled all over the screen to the maturity of its user interface. The simplicity of using it to the diversity of its playable music formats. All in all iTunes was the one for me. Read the rest of this entry »

Going mobile? Outsmart the thieves.
No, it isn’t for the occasion(s) when your beloved laptop or iPad is acting up and driving you crazy, however tempting blowing it to smitherines may be.
Try this on … It’s lunch time and you stop by your favorite café to check e-mail and grab a bite to eat. You settle in at a table when your pickup number is called. Returning to your table, you find your laptop and appetite—has disappeared!
Okay, maybe you’re not foolish enough to leave your laptop, tablet, or smartphone unattended in a public place, but one of your employees might think it’s okay to leave a it in their car, a hotel room, or in their gym bag and end up exposing your company’s data and network to thieves. If it hasn’t happened to you or someone you know, according to the FBI, it will. Read the rest of this entry »

What is it that makes a business or corporation successful? Location, advertising, clientele? Although these are very important to any business, there is one quality that will make or break a company. And, if used incorrectly, has the potential to put people in prison for a very long time. That quality would be professional ethics. Have you noticed that there are a lot of issues in the news today concerning this very topic? What makes this so vital? Read the rest of this entry »

With the changing of the times everyone wants something even more portable. I personally love having a ton of music on my computer at home. Me being a nerd I get too impatient waiting for my music to sync onto my iPod which is about 5-8 minutes tops. I want to be able to throw my music somewhere so that I can access it where ever I want, whenever I want from pretty much any device with an internet connection. For the longest time I would email myself a song or two which was just dumb and at that point I might as well wait for my iPod to sync.

I Have A Dirty Secret…
I have a dirty secret to confess…
I don’t clean my computer as often as I should. Yes, I’ve shaken the crumbs out of the keyboard from time to time just like everyone else, but that could hardly constitute as a “cleaning.”
With Spring in the air — not only that, but I moved my desk out to plug in my new iPhone today and was pretty grossed out — I thought this would be a good opportunity to remind everyone (myself included) to clean out those dirty PCs. After all, you should do this every 3 to 4 months. And, it’s not just for sanitation purposes… Read the rest of this entry »

Go Social With Your Contest!
If you’ve been less than impressed with the results generated from social media, join the club. All this Facebook, Twitter, blogging, etc. has left many folks asking―Where’s the beef?
As ESI’s social media manager, I share your frustration. Monetizing social media has been a tough task to say the least. I keep my eyes open for new things and I’m excited to share with you a social media success strategy that you might want to implement.
One of our strategic partners used this strategy and generated 411 leads in UNDER 24 hours; of which over half were brand new potential clients. You may not generate that many leads in less than 24 hours, but with a little effort you’ll be able to quickly generate a number of warm leads who are interested in your products or services.

Here’s a question you’ve probably never thought about: If your IT guy went away, would you know where all the passwords, data, software licenses and disks, key codes, and other important information were stored? Do you know how to log into your server? Do you know the passwords to all your employee’s workstations? Do you know where your offsite data is stored and how to access it? Is your network documented so that another IT person could come in and pickup where they left off? If not, your IT guy is holding you prisoner. Read the rest of this entry »
